Cobook App Reviews
I just synced and all my contacts photos was zipped, but whats the most frustrating is that the picture files are still here in the metadata folder … GRR DAMN YOU COBOOK !! i will read more deeply next time i install something like this...
Too wide, clumsily drawn, inappropriately bringing the nasty flat iOS7 aesthetic to Mac OSX (why???), missing dividers between entries, no more hover/rollovers, huge clumsy font…etc etc. This version is an aesthetic disaster. I am sad to say I am uninstalling Cobook. It hurts my eyes. Such a shame. If I could find a way to roll back to the previous version, I would. But I can’t.
I paid the in-app purchase for the LinkedIn connector. However, there appears no way to set how it sync, and by default it appears to suck in all LinkedIn contacts into my Mac address book. This is *not* what I want to happen — my Mac address book is for people with whom I am actively working with, whereas my LinkedIn network is far broader and extends to colleagues with whom I have no interaction whatsoever. In practice what happens is that my Contacts fill up with hundreds of names I barely know. All I really want is for Cobook to pull in data from LinkedIn, but only for the contacts already in my address book. I seem to recall that this was possible with the previous version.
I used to love the app which was very cleverly designed but after the last update it is not that intuitive to use anymore: the flat design style is an unnecessary trend and quite confusing in this particular case, the loading speed is slow, display of the photos and contact info are lagging, etc… I purchased the LinkedIn in app purchase which is a bit pricey for what it does but then I cannot even set the sync mode and now I have thousands of contact from different accounts all together… It really lacks of some parametrization options for syncing the different services together. Hopefully the next update will address those problems!
No more sync between local contacts and google contacts. Once there is no more native support to sync with Googles in Mavericks. There is no way to keep booth in sync. I big disappoint. The second disappoint is the layout. As a big fan I just bought the Linkdin Feature ($ 8,99). No problem to support the guys. But I regret to spent money on it. I feel sorry for a killer app that is now killing itself. :(
now waiting for Xing-Sync, and an option to automatically search for a name in connected services, when i type them in - i dont like to click and reclick on linkedin (and hopefully xing) again. When i press enter - just search for the names and make a suggestion instead of displaying an empty window.
Missing German Translation
German translation, please!
I love addresses, and I invested a lot of time to properly maintain my address book. Cobbok just broke them: Syncing in a stupid way with Facebook, Xing LinkedIn duplicated many phone numbers and addresses. The contact information of a colleague for example contains 4 (!!) times the same phone number… I delete cobook and restore my old addresses from my backup.
I have tried different versions of Cobook over the last months. Each time I had problems with contacts "magically" vanishing from my address book. I e-mailed Cobook support, but they offered no solution. Hence, if you depend on your contacts, dont use Cobook!
The app itself is an improvement to the default osx calendar, but in privacy concerns: despite the advertising slogans from the website which suggest a privacy promise, the app wanted to connect to some data/statistics/advertisingmarketing sites - WHAT FOR? So I recommend to app firewall and controll the connections of this app. beside this, it has some awkward behavior related to contact search. It doesnt find a name of a FB friend I have exactly with the searched name in my friendslist, but suggests many others, some even not related to the search term. This could also be an API problem, but it would be nice to see some improvement of this. Also improvement could be accomplished by pulling data from a known social network link (e.g. the manually added facebook link of this mentioned contact). Beside this, the app is a pretty good tool.
Bad Translations
The list of translations is so long, but the App itself is mainly in English :(
Well, with the change to it’s iOS-ish design and making additional features only available as in-app-purchases, this is another example of a “great app gone bad”. I can’t recommend it anymore and I guess I’ll switch back to the traditional addressbook.
I loved Cobook from the beginning and used it to sync my contacts with Xing, Twitter and LinkedIn - though the latter was only experimental and the UI had space for optimization. But now that I actually only use it to sync with Xing and Linkedin I shall pay for the EUR 7,99? For what? That the UI gets worse and worse with every new version? No! So long, Cobook, and thanks for all the fish!
so i can understand, that cobook has now inapp-purchases. also making things more ios-style seems consistent, even though it does not really fit to the rest of mavericks (which i would appreciate more). it is funny that the cobook window reaches over the whole screen and names are shown with a very blown up font. in total i liked the previous version more. i guess there will be an alternativ sooner or later anyway. or maybe apple will integrate something like this into the system….. same thing that happened to growl
3.0 seems broken
Crashes on launch (Mountain Lion) :-(
I prefered this program because it showed all numbers in the format I chose. The new version follows Apple’s policy to omit blanks. That makes long numbers illegible. Without that feature the main advantage is gone. Desaster! Please put it back in.
Sry, but without facebook senseless..
:(
linkedin APIs use in cobook
Hi linkedin integration in CoBook was a key feature for me. Is there any chance to get it back soon? Thanks Stefan
A great program
I have really enjoyed the smooth and swift access to my contacts. It just plain WORKS.
Glad to see it finally made it to the app store! I have been using the beta ever since I heard about it on Lifehacker! My calender is now populated with birthdays of my facebook contacts. My contacts also have some extra info added from facebook as well such as their profile photos! This was all done by Cobook, in minutes!
